A look inside our rally engines

by Swade on March 3, 2010

It’s been a long time since we’ve updated the Saabs United Historic Rally Team pages but that doesn’t mean that there hasn’t been anything going on.

In fact, it’s been the exact opposite.

Personally, I’ve been going nuts over at Saabs United covering the sale of Saab to the Spyker group. That craziness ended up with a flight half-way around the world to see the deal done – in person!

While I was doing that, Jörgen and Bo were busy working away on both cars.

Car #1 is now painted, as you’ve already seen, but I’ve got some great images to show you over the next few days of all the decals that are going on the car. it really is starting to look like the real deal now.

Right now, though, here’s a look at a bit of the dirty work that’s going on, and a brilliant new part the guys have managed to secure. It’s exciting stuff!

Forgive my ignorance, but isn’t that just an 8-valve cylinder head? What’s special about it? Does it have a racing cam or something?

Saab 99 Turbo only used 8-valve heads. So it was homologogated so. IIRC the cam is pretty mild. Low-comp pistons and the boost makes the extra horsepower in this car.
