Exhaust issues? Bang it with a hammer

by Swade on November 2, 2009

You may recall from one of our previous entries that we had built an exhaust tunnel into the rear end of our Saab 99 Turbo rally vehicle. That link will take you to a video showing the construction.

Unfortunately, it seems we may have transgressed a little in doing this. An FIA official has pronounced it as being not in line with the period, so we had restore the panel to it’s original condition.

Thankfully, we are allowed to take to it with a mallet, however, and create a little room for our exhaust system. It won’t be as aesthetically pleasing, but it will be within the rules :-)

Here’s the restored section….

Other interior work currently underway includes the welding for our roll cage. We’ve had the cage for a little while now, but installation will soon be complete and we’ll have some photos or video from that as soon as the job’s done.

This makes me feel better about my some of my “repairs”.
