Visit to the Saab Museum

by Swade on August 26, 2009

For a Saab nut, there’s no place quite like Trollhattan. It’s the birthplace of Saab, the little city that has inspired a car-loving public that spans the whole globe.

Last weekend, Jörgen drove into Trollhattan for a visit. Here’s from Trollhattan, too. He stayed with Liz Nyström, a former co-driver with Pat Moss back in the early days of Saab’s rallying competition. He soaked up all the inspiring stories and photos from their safari rallies back in the 1960s.

The other reason to visit Trollhattan was to call in and take another look at the 99Turbo competition car they have there. This car is a replica of the Swedish rally winner that Stig Blomqvist drove and as such, is pretty much what we’re trying to replicate as much as possible.

The following is a brief look at that car, as well as the original Saab 99Turbo that was presented at the Frankfurt Motor show back in 1977, which also is on permanent display at the Saab Museum (the story of it’s last drive is rather scary!)

This is the original Saab 99T show car from Frankfurt.

It has an interior in two-tone brown that was never produced, and if my memory serves me correctly from my own visit to the museum two years ago, it actually has an AMS badge on the dashboard.
