Potential Rally car #1

by Swade on August 8, 2009

The SU Historic Rally Team has purchased two three(!) Saab 99 Turbos as potential vehicles to be built up for use at the Midnight Sun rally next year. If they’re available, why not?

This is the first car, which probably won’t be the final competition vehicle, but could prove very useful anyway.

Like our 2nd car, this one started life as a Cardinal Red Metallic three-door Saab 99 Turbo. Neither of them will stay that way for long, however. The body of our competition car will eventually be painted black with a scheme similar to Stig Blomqvist’s RAC car from 1978.

Over the weekend, the engine was removed from this car on what turned out to be a very hot Swedish summer day.

How do you transport and engine once it’s removed?

Of course, you call on your Saab Turbo X SportCombi. Saabs have always been renowned for their usefulness (as well as their safety, turbo performance, etc etc) and transporting the 99’s engine just proves that case again!

I can’t believe you put an engine in the back of that immaculate sportcombi…… did the interior survive undamaged?
